Chickens and Roosts and Dogs and Boycotts

121216-uspreselection2-1050x600As Monday dawns, the chatter from the weekend has been about Russia “tampering” with the US election. This has people posing all kinds of scenarios from a Manchurian Candidate to outright fraud. Of course, nothing is further from the truth, but neither side lets go of a good conspiracy theory if it feeds their confirmation bias and gets people to donate money to their cause.

Consider for a moment a couple of things, internationally countries have always “tampered” with other countries elections to very little avail, but also always deny it. In 1960, the Soviets were very clear that they preferred Kennedy over Nixon, and while they were not accused of directly interfering, they were accused of doing things that favored Kennedy. Which was weird because Kennedy was the hardliner who kept talking about the “missile gap” and the need to contain communism. As we would later learn, the Soviets were flat out scared of Nixon and believed that he would not have hesitated to start a war, whereas they believed Kennedy was bluster and bluff, especially since he knew that there was no “missile gap” but it appealed to voters he needed.

In the end, there is something rather amusing about the same Administration that openly admits that it tried to influence another countries election – a close ally –  and in fact spent your money to do so, but failed, crowing now about how Russia tried to “influence” our election. You can’t really have it both ways. Either you stay out of it and accept the outcomes or you try to influence them and then whine about how the chickens come home to roost. What’s $1 Million Between Friends?

IMG_1254The violence at the Chicago Trump rally doesn’t make any logical sense. Or… does it? With all the reputable polls showing that Clinton beats Trump in November, what is gained by the protesters and their outrageous behavior?

As Dave gets onto a tangential subject, the Wounded Warrior Project recently fired their managers, but there remain several questions. In Modesto, the City Council, which this time a year ago “had to have” millions of dollars in increased tax money just to stay afloat, is toying with the idea (don’t worry, they are going to do it) of giving a local not-for-profit that the City in effect started almost a million dollars to “train residents in how to organize and solve their own problems while working with the city.”

Pre-ops start today for Knee Surgery IV – The Replacement, which takes place exactly one week from today.

Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time is upon us again and we start the traditional complaining about why we do this amazingly silly thing twice a year. If I had my druthers, I’d prefer that we always stay on DST, even though I went through the national experiment back in the 1970’s when Dick Nixon inflicted it upon us year round because of the energy crises. which wasn’t as much about an energy shortage as it was an economics lesson, and the last time anybody checked, was never actually solved. At any rate, DST has some advantages, but the constant switching back and forth is crazy. Pick one and stick with it. Plus Ben was up at 5:30am today.

Senator Fred Thompson died over the weekend. He was a great example of good, possibly even great, people being misled when he started shilling for overturning the Constitution and adopting the National Popular Vote system.

imageA Russian airliner crashes in Egypt and ISIL claims credit, even though pretty much nobody believes them. As of today, the airline rejects the theory of mechanical issues or pilot error, and says that the plane experienced “an external impact,” but won’t say what that means. reports are that Putin and Russia are pissed and they are allegedly moving tactical nukes closer to ISIL with the intention of using them. What if this was what they  (Russia) wanted all along? Could this whole thing be a maskirovka?

Tomorrow is Election Day. Does it even matter?
