I have had several people contact me offline regarding last Tuesday’s show. Thank you for your comments and for sharing your stories. It has been comforting to know how many others have gone through similar circumstances and it’s humbling to think that I may be the person putting a voice to our experiences. I believe that it is critically important for we as a people to not hide these things. Evil lurks in the dark, it’s time to shine some disinfecting sunlight on these circumstances.
California Democrats have called for a boycott of In-And-Out Burger. Boycotts are stupid, and you’d think that they would know that. Not only do these kinds of boycotts almost never work, all they really do is draw attention, and there is no such thing as bad publicity in business – especially the Burger business. Besides… T-Rex laughs at boycotts.
Google claims that it doesn’t censor searches. That is, of course, nonsense. It not only does censor searches, but it also rewards the sites that PAY Google for higher placement. Meanwhile, there is something of a revolt going on among Tech employees who see what is happening in the industry and are concerned about it.
The Great Brownsville Marina Sea Mine Mystery has been solved. Sort of. Turned out the inert mines were placed there by the Navy. In 2005. For a specific reason. And it wasn’t to defend the area against the enemy…
Fifty years ago, USS Scorpion’s 99 Men went down and never came back up. For fifty years, we have speculated, argued, debated, discussed, pontificated and theorized about what happened that day. There are camps who believe that a Mk 37 torpedo lit off and experienced a hot run in the Torpedo Room. Others believe the Trash Disposal Unit (TDU) was rigged incorrectly, causing flooding. Others believe that the Soviet Union attacked the Scorpion in retaliation for their loss of K-129. Still, others theorize that John Walker gave the Russians her location.
Fifty years later nobody knows for certain what actually happened. But we do know that the Navy and the Government haven’t been forthcoming about what it knows.
And every time I learned some new thing about her loss, I get even sadder.
There has been a subtle shift in the language of gun control advocates. Have you caught the change yet? Oddly enough, it began before the Santa Fe shooting but shows in the response to that particular event. It addresses the idea that once upon a time, both Michelle Obama and Joe Biden advocated FOR shotguns, while still hoping to take YOUR guns – and shotguns – away.
The incessant march towards the technological battlefield is inevitable. Project Maven was announced last year by the Pentagon to use advanced algorithms to analyze intelligence gathered by drones and other assets. The Government signed a contract with Google – yes, that Google – to work on the coding. But now, 4,000 Google employees have quit, after their attempt to pressure Google to cancel the contract failed.
What if the actual definition of “Fake News” is not that the “news” in question is fake, per se, but rather that it is insulting or critical of the subject of the story? Seriously, by this point in time, if you cannot spot a “fake” news story, you pretty much have to have the brains of Jello®. So why all the hoopla over the fake news now? Is it because “fake news” cost Hillary Clinton the election? Of course not. Again, you’d have to be a dolt to believe that more than 60 Million people all fell for a meme. What if the real reason behind the attack on the 1st Amendment – remember, lying is in most cases protected by the 1st Amendment – is about silencing opposition? Is it really about politics or is there something a bit more nefarious at work here? Read the rest of this entry
