Surgery and Ethics

Six years ago, Cami and I had been married for abut a year and a half, Ben was six months old. A few weeks before, Cami had gone to see the Optometrist to get fitted for some new glasses, and for some reason had been gone for nearly four hours (the Eye Doc was literally a block away). I tried calling several times, but there was no answer. To say that I was nervous would be an understatement. And those who know me best will also know it was because I hate being late.

A few minutes before my drop dead leaving time, Cami walked into the house. Because of the dilation she couldn’t see her phone to answer it or to text me. Okay. There’s more…

The reason she had been late is she had been sent for an emergency MRI. On her brain. On which there was a rather larger tumor.

I think that my heart stopped for a moment. I know that I didn’t go to work that day. Several trips to UCSF later, just after New Years Day

My view of the surgery

My view of the surgery

2011, Cami went into surgery while I waited with my parents, my oldest daughter and two of Cami’s best friends. For hours. Twelve to be exact. Dad and I watched the Bowl Game with Stanford’s Andrew Luck proving that he would be the 1st Round Pick. I didn’t pay as much attention to the game as I did to my phone and the information desk. Eventually even that closed, there was still no word. Read the rest of this entry

Up since 4am, Dave launches at the people who sent him eMails claiming that John McCain started the fire aboard USS Forrestal.

dowseraThe Drought has become a permanent political event in California. Regardless of how strong or how many El NiƱo’s we have, there is too much political power to be gained and too much money to be made from having a permanent drought in the State. Which, of course, leads to increased instances of “Water Witching,” or Dowsers, who take people money and raise their hopes by pretending to find water using two sticks and a mystical attitude.

The Lt. Governor (we do have one!) is a guy by the name of Gavin Newsome. He is running for Governor in 2018 and wants to legalize marijuana. But before you get all excited about that, you should understand that he is NOT a free market guy. He has no interest in you being able to buy marijuana unfettered and untaxed.

The White House orders the Flags lowered to Half-mast, and it turns out that at least two of the men killed by the PLRI Terrorist were in fact armed and did return fire.

Creative History

frsdfAt long last we have reached the Holiest Week of the Year, and Dave is ready to celebrate what has already been a much better Shark Week.

Donald Trump is a GOP candidate for President. He is certainly stirring the pot by making loud and boisterous statements about what he allegedly thinks, but when you consider his entire history, not the created history that he has cloaked himself in for the last few weeks, why would anybody in the GOP, let alone Conservatives support The Donald for President?

The City of Modesto got caught selling water to a company that bottles it and sells it – out of State. The only real question is whether or not Governments in the State are seeking the “best use” of water as a policy or whether they are looking for the highest bidder for the water. The answer is pretty obvious.

Ina decidedly more interesting games than most, the US Women defeat Japan 5-2 to win the Women’s World Cup of Futbol. The problems with Soccer remain, but this game could go a ways towards making it more palatable to Americans.
