The Good Old Days



Over the weekend, a Russian destroyer made a run at the USS Chancellorsville, nearly causing a collision between the two ships. This has much of the world in a tizzy, but the reality is that once upon a time this was a fairly common occurrence. If not common, at least not something about which governments and news agencies got their knickers in a wad over.

But the whole thing, along with the return of the Peace Protestors to the gates of Bangor, has Dave reminisces about his own time during the Cold War aboard USS Michigan SSBN-727(G). It was an amazing experience in a beautiful place…

In the broad scheme of things, we are all individuals, as different from each other as we can possibly be. And yet, we are all the same. No matter how far you go back in time, you can’t help but notice that we all came from the same place, the same beginning. In the core of our cells lies the same genetic code that has existed since life began. Every living thing shares its mathematical alphabet. As much as you might dislike it, it’s still a fact that you cannot change.

So why is there so much fracas over who is what?

Like so many things, it’s less about the truth and more about the perception.

We tend to think of the entire basis of the American Revolution as “Taxation without Representation.”

But it was a whole lot more… including a tyrant King who thought himself above the law using terrorism against the civilian colonists to try and maintain his evil rule. It was the first time a Tyrannical King of England dared to attack his Colonists in North America. It wouldn’t be the last time…
