Hanoi Jane Says Sorry
A long time ago, an actress went to North Vietnam. In the ensuing years, she has gone on to wealth and fame and high esteem in the eyes of those who were unmoved by her trip. But for those who saw her trip to visit the enemy for treason, it hasn’t been quite as fun of a journey. Now, Jane Fonda has issued what is being reported as an apology. So why is it that Veterans, both from the Vietnam War and after that, seem so unwilling to accept her purported apology? There is a reason, and it’s really not that complicated.
The Director for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was fired when his history of Tweets was uncovered and he was found to have made disparaging comments about pedophilia. Following his firing, the cast and crew of the film have made it clear that they want him rehired since his tweets were “jokes.”
Meanwhile, a young Pitcher for the Atlanta Braves comes without one out of a no-hitter on Sunday. Within seconds of the end of the game, his Twitter record is released and is full of disparaging comments and phrases about gays.
So what is it? Do we conduct a Twitterpast witch hunt every time somebody does something positive? Do we use the results of that hunt to destroy not just the accomplishment, but the future as well? Luckily, a US Senator has a plan…
