Just to be clear, Dave isn’t “down on the Holidays.” In fact, if you’re looking for a special project to help the less fortunate, HERE is a great project to help the homeless in one of America’s great Cities and home to another Podcaster friend…
SEGMENT – COLD WATER (08:34)
The ARA San Juan is officially lost with all hands. The latest updates on what might have happened – and again, it’s just speculation; informed speculation, but still just speculation – are the kind of stuff that keeps Dave up at night.
SEGMENT – A RAY OF SUNSHINE (28:45)
As the weaponized use of the Sexual Misconduct Charge spreads, there comes a moment when we are forced to ask a simple question. No longer do we need to contemplate how this happened or even why? We know those answers. What we have to ask ourselves is what do we do now?
Meanwhile the State Legislature of California admits that there have been a “number” of investigations and settlements (tax payer funded), it refuses to allow any information about that settlements or investigations to be released to the public, under the “Open Records Act” which isn’t.
The biggest single reason why this has gone on so long will surprise you. And it’s something that, in a completely unrelated arena, I have complained about for many, many years.
SEGMENT – THE MADISON YOU DON’T KNOW (48:45)
Back in 2011ish, I was… let’s just call it “dis-invited” from participating in the local Tea Party. Why? Frankly it was because I dared to say that President Obama was correct on a particular issue. This was outrageous to the group, and they no longer wanted to have “Constitution Corner” as a part of their meetings.
They didn’t want to hear the truth, they wanted to hear what made them happy and what fit their own preconceived bias about what the Constitution says and means.
As a part of that, one of the phrases they used over and again was “The Values of the Founders,” by which they specifically meant people like Washington, Jefferson and of course, the Father of the Constitution, James Madison. Those values, naturally, completely agreed with what the group stated as their own.
The problem is, as if you couldn’t guess, that a realistic look at James Madison might have upset more than a few Tea Partiers.
Guess it was a good thing I hadn’t gotten to the Ratification Debates before I got tossed, eh?
