USS Thresher SSN-593

The anniversary of the loss of the USS Thresher in 1963 reminds us that going to sea in ships is inherently dangerous. Whether there is an enemy or some unknown and unexpected danger in the deep, the dangers cannot be ignored, nor always avoided. No matter how advanced the technology or how sure we are of our procedures, there is always that unknown danger that is waiting to surprise us.

Edward Snowden leaks have directly effected submarine operations and like John Walker, his actions have placed men and ships in danger.
