Here is an actual Sharknado Week story from Chatham, Massachusetts, where the beach goers have been startled by the appearance of Great White Sharks. In true American-do spirit, the town is CAPITALIZING ON THE SHARKS being around. In a few weeks, President Obama will clam that the sharks are being exploited by the now wealthy people of Chatham, MA, and that they should split the take with the sharks. BTW, Chatham, MA is now on my approved list of places I want to go.
Speaking of the Commander in Chief, he released A STATEMENT ON SUNDAY for Eid-Al-Fitr in which he thanked the PLRI for its “many achievements and contributions… to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy.” Oddly enough, as a historian I am racking my brain to try and find these instances of fabric weaving and core building, but I am having a hard time coming up with even one. Unless you count the tearing down of buildings to be replaced by new ones? Further, I note that Eid-Al-Fitr and its feast are about PLRI unity, and there was an attempt last week by the United States Government to broker a ceasefire in Gaza in time for the feast. I am no conspiracy buff, but I do note events and their timing is rarely coincidental. An attempt to celebrate PLRI unity while the entire Muslim world s not united over Hamas’ idiocy? I am sure that the statement is put out as de rigueur from a White House hell bent on not offending anybody except its own citizens. But this speaks to what I was talking about yesterday with the problems of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. It was consumed with political and ethnical correctness with no willingness by any sub-group to assimilate into the nation. We are seeing that same effect here now, and in my view, the government is pushing it with its insane insistence on not offending anybody – except its own citizens.
By the by, I mentioned this post on our Facebook Page that Kevin put up, it’s a PHOTO ESSAY OF PLACES AND PEOPLE CONNECTED TO THE GREAT WAR, and frankly it is impressive in ways that defy words. Believe me, it’s worth the time to peruse it and connect, even for just a moment, to what happened a hundred years ago.
The White House is trying “put on ice” all the deniers of Global Warming. How? Oddly enough they WILL RELEASE A NEW REPORT today that is sure to convince everybody that is challenging the idea of AGW of the error of their ways.
I still believe that Governor Rick Perry’s sending of National Guard Troops to the border is more political theater than actual substantive accomplishment, but the conservative narrative is that IT IS SENDING A POWERFUL MESSAGE. The proof will be in the pudding, as they say. At a cost of $12 Million/month to maintain the 1000 troops and their water bottles and cell phones on the border, how long will Texas be able to keep up the pretense for the sole purpose – as it seems now – of “sending a powerful message?” And what happens when that “message” is over?
I say something and people seem blasé. So HERE IS RUSH LIMBAUGH saying exactly what I said yesterday before he did.
