The 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month
At the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, the Guns of August at last fell silent.
Today honor those who have served in the Military Forces of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. The men and women who stepped up and with solemn oath, swore to uphold and defend the Constitution and the country. They’re reasons for doing so are as many and varied as there are Veterans themselves. From those who were drafted to those who joined for patriotic reasons, the spectrum is wide and colorful.
For me the Veterans of today are some of the most amazing Vets. Most of them joined knowing full well that they would be deployed into combat zones. They volunteered to put their lives on the line for what America is and always has been, the bastion of freedom and liberty. Millions of Americans have served and are currently serving us. Please take a moment today to contemplate what your life in America would be like without the brave men and women who served us.
I come from a family with a long and proud history of military service. From the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WWII, the Cold War and 1st Gulf War, to today as my cousin/nephew Bradley patrols the skies for the Coast Guard, we have been honored to serve our nation and prouder still of the nation that we serve
I am very proud to be a Veteran, and I am even more proud of those who continue to volunteer and to serve.
By the by, what we call “Veterans Day” is “Remembrance Day” in the rest of the world. A time to remember those who have served and to recall the end of the First World War. In this very moving story, an RAF Bomber Command Veteran passed away recently with no family or friends. Until the word got out, that is…
CNN has what I consider to be a typical smear article against People of Unapproved Faith. In this case CNN takes the time to listen to the sermon of one Rev. Timothy Bishop of Atlanta’s 1st Iconium Baptist Church who explains to us from his pulpit that he and his brand of Christians care about the poor, while other Christians who aren’t his brand don’t, as evidenced by States not starting Obamacare (he loves that name!) exchanges. That’s the gist of the article. The one or two churches are bemoaning the political decisions of the State Government, and other churches aren’t. The churches that are – in CNN’s view – are good, the ones who aren’t, well, aren’t. It has always seemed odd to me that the left yells the loudest about “separation of church and state,” yet it is clearly left leaning churches that preach politics from the pulpit. Now CNN goes a step further and pronounces churches that don’t follow suit as apostate from the true faith.
I wonder how the good Reverend feels about the Obamacare (he loves that name!) driving couples to actually consider divorce in order to afford the “affordable care?” I’m sure that as long as they are Republican couples he’ll be fine with it.
Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Kenny is expected to rule soon on whether the proposed High-Speed Rail system can keep spending money on planning and land acquisition. On Friday the judge told attorneys for the state rail project and for Kings County, which is trying to block it, that he might consider throwing out the rail system’s current financing scheme, which he had earlier ruled to be out of compliance with a voter-approved rail bond issue. But the rail system notes that it is spending federal funds for the planning of the initial segment – in an area south of Madera through Fresno.
I often theorize that the money culture of Washington will always corrupt even the most noble of souls that we send there (and Sacramento. But what if I’ve got it backwards and we are not really vetting the people we send there? What if it turns out that they are experts in extortion?
In case you missed it (and you did…), State workers collected $516 Million in bonus pay last year.
I guess it would be hyperbole to say that we “have a major announcement coming” on Thursday the 14th of November, so I suppose that I will just say that or those of you who are fans of Constitution Thursday and enjoy the interplay between myself and John (and others), then we will have some very good news to tell you coming up on Thursday. Stay tuned!
