Day 304 of the Year Twenty & 13

On this day…

In 2104bce, the flood waters finally receded from the Earth and G-d commanded Noah to come out out of the ark!

In 683 the Kaaba burns down during the Siege of Mecca. President Obama blames a YouTube video for the incident while Congressional Republicans demand hearings.

In 1864 Nevada is admitted to the Union as the 36th US State.

In 1923 in Marble Bar, Australia, the temperature hits 100 Degrees. It is the first of 160 days in a row of 100+ temperatures.

In 1926 Harry Houdini dies. Most of the audience thinks it is a part of his act and wait nearly six hours for him to reappear.

In 1938, nine years after the Black Tuesday crash, Wall Street unveils its 15 point plan to “restore the confidence of investors.”

In 1940 The Battle of Britain ends. The Royal Air Force has prevented an invasion by Nazi Germany.

In 1941 Mt. Rushmore is finished. well, I mean the sculpture on Mt. Rushmore is finished. The mountain itself was done a million or so years ago.

In 1961 De-Stalinization hits its really creepy peak as Stalin’s embalmed corpse is removed from Lenin’s Tomb and after a parade through Red Square is placed in a smaller crypt nearby.

In 1984 Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is assassinated. In the depths of the Pacific, a very young FTB3(SS) is awakened and called to the Missile Control Center aboard USS Michigan SSBN-727(G) to conduct a retargeting in response to the potential outbreak of hostilities between India and Pakistan. Nobody is really sure what is going on, and eventually he goes back to bed.

In 2011 the world population reaches 7 Billion. Hence it is called “7 Billion day.”

Born this day… John Keats (1795); Juliette Gordon Lowe (1860); Chiang Kai-shek (1887); B.H. Lindell Hart (1895); Michael Collins (1930); Michael Landon (1936); David Ogden Stiers (1942); Peter Frampton (1943); John Candy (1950); Peter Jackson (1961)
