What’s Your Excuse?

The Sacramento Mom who posted the “What’s Your Excuse” blog is taking heat for “fat bashing.” I read it a couple of times and while I think that she’s kinda hyper, I didn’t see it as “bashing.” Believe me, if there is anybody on the planet with excuses, I am he. Yes, I have some legitimate health issues, specifically my knees, which keep me from doing the exercise that I enjoy, but that’s not really (as my doctor pointed out) a reason to not do any exercise at all. John has been really good about his program and you can sense the positive changes in him. My own “Diet of Doom” (1800 net calories/day) put in place by my Doctor has resulted in a 25lbs loss, but the depressing part is that it is easily the 7th or 8th time in my life that I have lost those same 25lbs. Diets don’t work, it’s really simple – calories out over calories in. Otherwise it really is just an excuse.

Here’s some good news, Bank of America has wisely invested the $12 they charge me every month to “service” my money and now they are in the black again. Imagine my relief. For those of you who are going to send me smarmy self-important eMails about why you refuse to use BofA, stow it. I’ve have the same account since 1982. The Bank went from C&S, to Sovereign, to Nations to US to BofA.

There are so many problems with the case yesterday of the two teenage girls arrested for cyber-bullying another girl to suicide. The police releasing their identification is problematic enough, the presser in which they did it was all but a guarantee of a a legal challenge, but now the parents of one of the girls have gone to the “She must have been hacked” well to defend their daughter.

The lesson of the Rim Fire? That the forest needs to be thinned out. Will it happen? Not a chance.

Some good news out in Tracy, the Amazon Center has opened ahead of schedule. Of course, it wasn’t a Government program, so it wouldn’t be behind without a real reason anyway.

The Ripon Police Department VIPS program has raised $500 for juvenile diabetes research, but they’ve also issued a challenge to other social groups in the Ripon area. Any takers?

You can pretty much bet the farm that the Public Sector Unions will pull out all the stops and spend every dime to fight a new proposed Ballot Initiative to allow Pensions to be cut.

I am always amazed when “Constitutional Scholars” tell me that the Framers “never intended” for something – in this case the shutdown debate – to happen. Like scripture, the Constitution and its Framers must interpret themselves in the context of their writings. The simple fact is that Alan Dershowitz is incorrect, the Framers DID sit around and talk about the government debating spending and they made it clear that the House wins when that happens:

The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure. – Federalist #58
